Relaxation Body Work Program

Bodywork for the busy professional

Are you a busy professional constantly on the go? Chances are, you experience recurring neck and back pain due to prolonged sitting and stress at the workplace. This comprehensive bodywork program involves a series of treatments that include cupping, traditional Asian acupuncture, and trigger point needling.

Program design

Come for a relaxation bodywork appointment either after work or on your lunch hour! For maximal effect, appointment frequency is typically every 3 to 4 weeks. 30 minute and 45 minute appointments are available.

Therapies available:

  • Cupping therapy. Cupping is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that involves using special cups on the skin to create suction. The suction brings blood flow to the region, provides a type of deep-tissue massage, and may also help reduce muscular pain and stress. While cupping itself is not painful, bruising is a common side effect of cupping that typically takes 10 days to resolve.

  • Acupuncture. Acupuncture is an ancient holistic therapy that works both physically and energetically though the insertion of very small needles to specific points of the body. These points are located on “meridians,” or channels in the body through which energy flows. Several acupuncture points are indicated to relieve stress and promote balance in the body.

  • Trigger point needling. Trigger point needling is a technique used by many sports therapists and physiotherapists. It involves the insertion of an acupuncture needle into a tight (hypertonic) muscle in order to release painful myofascial trigger points. It is used to treat muscular tension and spasm.

What to expect

The first appointment is one hour and involves taking a thorough medical history, physical exams, and lab testing if indicated. Additional treatment in addition to the above physical modalities may be discussed and can include nutritional counselling, herbal medicine, and vitamin supplementation. If there is time within the first 1-hour assessment, the patient will receive a short treatment of either cupping, acupuncture, or trigger point needling.

Note: Visit fees are covered by most extended health benefits plans.
